Safe Work Method Statement - SWMS

A SWMS is required where there are any High Risk Hazards on-site.*

Your SWMS should only be a few pages, setting out the Hazards, Risks and Controls

        Serious injury & death:

No 1 - Falling from height is the No 1 catastrophic incident resulting in death or serious injury, in construction and includes ladders

No 2 - Electrocution - demo & building where there's live circuits/ overhead power cables

No 3 - Hit by moving objects/ falling objects / crush incidents and includes vehicle crashes - generally single vehicle accidents - peaks between 2:00 and 4:00pm (fatigue?)

Hazards highlighted by OHS Safety First

Our extensive safety work in the construction industry, has identified hazards that require controls for worker safety and compliance to the WHS Act & Regulations - here they are:

        1. Falls from height - Australias major cause of death and serious injury. Use controls that prevent falls. Scaffold is (generally) best albeit all workers should be trained in a Nationally Recognised Height Training Course. Contact your local Master Builders Association to book training or contact us.

        2. Rushing the work [builders & workers under the pump] ..rushing? ... we make mistakes

        3. Non-compliant scaffold - dodgy scaff set-ups

        4. Non-compliant electrical equipment specifically RCD's, Test & Tag

        and overhead power near scaffold

        5. Hand & ankle injury - Tip: workers should stretch hands & ankles and wear lace & zip-up safety boots (good safety boots cost around AUD$200) to support ankles (ankle roll-off)

        6. Mental Health - all workers - connect to us for free help
